Pakistan's Political System
May Allah give us guidance, and the wisdom to apply it in our lives.

I have studied the current perils of Pakistan in great detail. After a comprehensive and intense study I have found that the fundamental problem of Pakistan is just that, the fundamental. Like any other organization, company, and life, our country required a proper foundation, a nurturing. But this child was born an orphan. The father of this child(Iqbal) didn't live up to see the birth, and the mother( Jinnah), died just after that.
We got engaged in the debate of what is Pakistan? Who is Pakistan for? And even why is Pakistan? The vision of Iqbal of a free country where Muslims could live happily and in peace is the converse of what we see today. I think Jinnah wanted to create the first Secular Islamic State.
And with the death of both the parents , the orphan was robbed of its principal of being.
Like any organization a government needs a particular management system. Just like some scholars who study Business Administration, there is a study for students who want to study Government Management, called Political Science. And just like a failed company is a result of bad management and executive decisions, so is any government.
There are a few main elements to a political system. By System I mean the arrangement of a structure of an order, the result of which is the object desired. The three main branches in common study of political science are the administration( executive branch), law( legislative branch), and the courts( judicial branch).
This is my first article in a series of articles to discuss political science. In my articles I will discuss the above-mentioned fields, my opinion on them, and the effect of them, or the lack of, in Pakistan.
Jinnah was a respected and an astute lawyer. He was unable to create a Constitution for the new born country before his death. And that , in my opinion is the beginning of the illness of Pakistan. We ended up using Imperial Law with some amendments.
The Imperial law was designed to articulate the position of the Queen in the country with control of the administration being given to the Prime Minister. We followed this rite by creating a post of the President( mostly ceremonial and symbolic) , and then to have a Prime Minister to do all the work. In this regard I admire the American system where there is only one person in charge, yet accountable, even though it has it flaws. I also prefer a Presidential Electoral System over the Parliamentarian Electoral System, because it eliminates the indirect election of a person by the people.
And later on ,in the 1971 constitution we lost the only thing that kept us united, the Central Political System. Instead of unifying the country it divided her in four pieces. The child was split! We are not a big country. Unlike India, Canada, and USA, we do not need to have sub divisions of the political system to manage it, France is an example of this political system . This is inefficient and costly at the least. The people who created it were also the reason of the splitting of West Pakistan to become Bangladesh. The division of political system of the country resulted in the division of the people of the country.
I argue for a Political System that is efficient to serve the people. I firmly believe in the concept of democracy, however shouldn't there be a qualification and /or exam to merit the person to lead the nation? If there is an exam to enter a medical college, shouldn't there be a test to the highest office in the country?
I believe in a political system where qualified people try to enhance the public service of the government for the people. In that sense I believe in Techno-Democracy.
Appreciable thoughts... but the roots of our self-destruction lie in the destruction of our education system...
ReplyDeleteAgreed. But education system is the job of the Administrative branch of Government. So we need to fix that to fix everything. And honestly everything starts from economy. Its a cycle. We have a lot of educated unemployed.Thats the main concern.
ReplyDeleteI believe.. if education system gets better.. and you are able to create some people who are really educated.. they wil have the capability to turn sand into gold... they can create opportunities themselves... we need vision... vision will lead us to educaiton.. which will lead us to better employment opportunities.. and beter economy.. so yes.. this is a cycle...
